Chelsea vs Tottenham Review
Tottenham Hotspur secured only their second league victory in 37 visits to Stamford Bridge by dramatically defeating Chelsea 2-0 in the Premier League. Both teams entered the match having won their previous games, while Chelsea has achieved this regularly this season, Tottenham’s win against Coventry was their first of the campaign. Under heavy rain in London, the first half was cautious, with Spurs maintaining possession for most of the time, while Chelsea aimed to capitalize on any mistakes.

The Blues, missing their top scorer Joao Pedro, had the opening opportunity when Cole Palmer’s curling shot towards the top corner was saved by Antonin Kinsky, and at the other end, Mohamed Kudus missed a similar chance by shooting wide. As the first half went on, Spurs grew more confident with possession and arguably created the best chance of the period when Omar Marmoush shot directly at Chelsea goalkeeper Mike Penders. However, the home team began to pose a threat as halftime neared, with Kinsky saving a Jordan Henderson shot from just inside the box before stopping Pedro Neto’s low strike.

The second half followed a similar pattern, with Tottenham controlling the ball but failing to make much of it. The next shot on target came shortly after the 60-minute mark, when Neto again shot straight at Kinsky from a very dangerous position. The challenging conditions affected the game, as shown by yellow cards for Micky van de Ven, Mateus Fernandes, and Palmer after two consecutive incidents.

In the end, it was a disaster caused by Chelsea’s backup goalkeeper Penders that allowed the home crowd to witness the opening goal. The Belgian was nearly unopposed when a corner came his way, but his punch somehow went behind him and into his own net. Things worsened for Xabi Alonso’s team when Palmer received a second yellow card for a late foul on Conor Gallagher. With just three minutes left, Tottenham capitalized on their numerical advantage as Mathys Tel advanced into Chelsea’s half, evaded Maxence Lacroix, and struck a low shot into the bottom corner, out of Penders’ desperate reach.

This marked Tottenham’s first away victory of the season, moving them up to 12th place in the standings. Meanwhile, Chelsea’s six-match unbeaten streak at home ended, and they now need to regroup ahead of upcoming matches against Liverpool and Manchester United.
