Ligue 1 Roundup, Matchday 2

The second round of the 2026/27 Ligue 1 season has just finished, featuring exciting matches and outstanding displays. Here is an overview of the most recent Ligue 1 games.

Lille 2-2 PSG

Paris Saint-Germain came back from a two-goal deficit for the second game in a row, securing a 2-2 draw that prevented Davide Ancelotti from achieving a notable victory in his debut home match as LOSC Lille’s manager. This result also extended Lille’s unbeaten streak against PSG to 11 competitive matches. Despite the late setback, Lille climbed to third place in Ligue 1, while the champions fall to 11th place after a comeback led by Vitinha.

Strasbourg 2-1 Lens

Strasbourg came back from a first-half deficit to secure their first Ligue 1 points of the season with a 2-1 victory over last season’s runners-up, RC Lens. The home supporters are likely not too concerned about the team failing to keep a clean sheet for the tenth consecutive league game, especially since Strasbourg has only managed two wins in their last nine head-to-head matches against Lens (3 draws, 4 losses). For Lens, the late goal ended their unbeaten run at the start of the season (2 wins), handing Dino Toppmöller his first competitive defeat as manager of Les Sang et Or.

Lyon 1-1 Le Havre

Lyon scored a late equalizer to prevent back-to-back home defeats in Ligue 1 for the first time since 2023, securing a 1-1 draw against Le Havre, who earned their first point of the season. Paulo Fonseca’s team continues to be undefeated in this matchup this century, while Le Havre matched a club record by going five consecutive away games unbeaten in Ligue 1.

Lorient 1-2 Troyes

Troyes extended their unbeaten streak to two games since returning to Ligue 1 by securing a 2-1 victory on the road against Lorient, marking their first head-to-head win in six encounters. Troyes managed to hold on and earn crucial three points, which, despite it being only August, will be very important as they strive to maintain their place in the top division. Lorient, meanwhile, remain without a win in their first two league matches, and their challenge continues next week with an away game against last season’s runners-up, Lens.

Brest 2-2 Toulouse

New manager Julien Lachuer kept looking for his first victory with Stade Brestois, but at least his team managed to secure a 2-2 draw against Toulouse in the closing moments. This result extends Les Pirates’ winless streak in the league to 11 games, spanning back to last season (5 draws, 6 losses). Despite the late disappointment, Toulouse have maintained an unbeaten record in their opening away match of each new season in all five campaigns since their promotion to the top division (3 wins, 2 draws).

Auxerre 1-3 Angers

Angers secured their first victory of the new Ligue 1 season by defeating AJ Auxerre 3-1. Stéphane Gilli’s team earned three top-division points at the Stade de l’Abbé-Deschamps for the first time ever. This loss leaves Auxerre as the only team without any points in the league after two matches, having allowed eight goals in those games.

Paris FC 3-0 OGC Nice

Paris FC maintained their impressive home record (6 wins, 1 loss) in Ligue 1 by securing a convincing 3-0 victory over OGC Nice, earning Liam Rosenior his first three points since becoming manager in the summer. The home team marked their fifth consecutive top-division win against Nice. If they continue their strong performance at home, they appear well-positioned to finish at least in the top half of the table.

Rennes 3-2 Le Mans

Stade Rennais secured their first victory of the 2026/27 Ligue 1 season by narrowly defeating Le Mans 3-2 in their first top-tier meeting since 2010. This hard-earned win prevented Rennes from losing a two-goal lead for the second weekend in a row, marking the real start of their season.

Monaco 2-0 Marseille

Monaco achieved their second consecutive win in Ligue 1 for the third time in the past four seasons, thanks to Paris Brunner’s two goals that led to a 2-0 triumph over Olympique de Marseille. This victory for Filipe Luís’ squad puts them at the top of the standings as the only team with a perfect record after two matches.
