Manchester United vs Tottenham Review
Tottenham Hotspur scored a last-minute equalizer, their first away goal of the Premier League season, to secure a 1-1 draw against Manchester United, extending the Red Devils’ winless streak in domestic matches to five games. Both teams were experiencing their worst-ever starts to a Premier League season, leading to very low morale, but it was the league’s bottom-ranked team who clearly controlled the early stages.

Senne Lammens’ pass was too weak for Kobbie Mainoo, which allowed Lucas Bergvall to set up Dominic Solanke, though he was unable to score and mark his first time as Spurs captain with a goal. The visitors dominated the midfield completely, creating several opportunities, including one where Mohammed Kudus fired wide after Savio’s cut-back into the box. In a situation very similar to their last match before the international break, Spurs appeared to have wasted their early dominance as United gradually grew more comfortable. A quick counterattack saw Bryan Mbeumo sprinting towards the goal and setting up Amad Diallo, but the Ivorian’s shot was easily saved by Antonin Kinsky.

At least they didn’t fall behind before halftime, unlike in the earlier Aston Villa game, but the break came with Roberto De Zerbi’s team still searching for a breakthrough. The second half started much like the first, with Savio creating two chances, the second of which Solanke sent high over the bar. Spurs had missed too many opportunities, and their inefficiency was punished with just over 15 minutes left. Matheus Cunha made his way into the box and passed to Mbeumo, who controlled the ball expertly and turned to place it into the far corner, giving United the lead.

Things got worse for Spurs when Rodrigo Bentancur was sent off five minutes later after a terrible combination of two reckless tackles followed by a head-to-head clash with Luke Shaw. United chose not to take additional risks to increase their lead, which ultimately worked against them as they conceded a late equalizer despite having more players on the field.

Sandro Tonali’s cross found Solanke nearby, who managed to fend off Lisandro Martinez’s challenge and headed the ball into the bottom corner. Although Spurs couldn’t capitalize further, that goal spared them embarrassment by moving them off the bottom of the league table. Meanwhile, United likely didn’t merit all three points and ended up without a win in their last three matches at Old Trafford.
