Barcelona vs Getafe Review
Jules Kounde has already equaled his goal total from last LaLiga season by scoring the final goal for Barcelona in their 3-0 victory over Getafe at the Nou Camp, extending their flawless start with a 23rd consecutive home league win. Getafe’s defensive strength has been their hallmark early in this LaLiga campaign, but their defense was breached within the first two minutes. The home team kept Getafe pinned deep in their own half, though the opening goal came somewhat luckily, as Anthony Gordon unexpectedly gained possession near his own penalty area and his shot deflected off a Getafe defender, deceiving goalkeeper David Soria.
Only a last-ditch block by Nemanja Gudelj prevented Dani Olmo from scoring what seemed like a certain goal as Barcelona pushed for a second. However, they didn’t have to wait much longer to double their lead. Luck played a part again, but this time due to Zaid Romero’s mistake, as he gave the ball away to Gabriel Jesus near his own penalty area, allowing the Brazilian to calmly place the ball into the bottom corner.
Hansi Flick’s team continued to press hard after the break, creating numerous chances. Jesus was the first to come close, sneaking in at the far post to head over a cross from Gerard Martin, before Gordon broke through the middle but had his shot blocked by Soria’s legs. The Getafe goalkeeper was extremely busy, making a fine one-handed save to deny Olmo just before the hour mark, but he was helpless to stop Kounde from tapping in a third goal from inside the six-yard box after connecting with Lamine Yamal’s cross.
Having secured their eighth consecutive win in LaLiga, Barca were casually dominating their opponents in the final moments. They might have increased their lead when Fermín López missed an excellent opportunity to score a fourth goal, firing a left-footed volley over the crossbar. However, this did not impact the outcome, as Flick’s team extended their unbeaten home LaLiga head-to-head streak to an impressive 22 matches, achieving their ninth consecutive home victory. Meanwhile, Getafe were left to recover from their fourth straight away loss in the top division without scoring.
