Arsenal vs Leeds Review
Arsenal rallied from behind to secure a 2-1 victory over a determined Leeds United team, achieving their eighth consecutive Premier League win against this opponent and ending Leeds’ unbeaten run this season. Bukayo Saka was active early in the match, but his first significant involvement came defensively when he had to quickly react to block Noah Okafor’s shot, resulting in a corner. Leeds, well-organized, generally appeared comfortable dealing with Arsenal’s attacks, and it wasn’t until the 20th minute that Kai Havertz managed the first shot on target, a header easily caught by James Trafford.

Arsenal then benefited from a stroke of luck to avoid going behind when Jayden Bogle accidentally blocked Anton Stach’s attempt near the far post. Bogle quickly made up for his earlier mistake by chasing down a loose ball and sending a shot towards the goal, but the advancing David Raya was able to block it. The goalkeeper was tested again when he rushed out far to deflect a free-kick, then had to quickly retreat to catch Ethan Ampadu’s lobbed header. Just before halftime, he was called into action once more, making himself big to stop Gabriel Gudmundsson from close range.

Arsenal must have felt somewhat relieved to reach the break with the score still 0-0, although they have been drawing or losing at halftime in five of their six league games this season (4 draws, 1 loss). However, they have generally improved after the break, and Martin Odegaard had a great opportunity shortly after the second half began, forcing Trafford to make a smart dive to his left following good play from Noni Madueke.

Leeds kept up the pressure, forcing Raya to stay alert and tip a powerful shot from Ao Tanaka over the crossbar. Their persistence paid off when James Justin appeared at the far post and powered the ball past a desperate Gabriel on the line, giving the visitors a well-deserved lead. However, they couldn’t maintain the advantage for long, as a straightforward cross was converted by Riccardo Calafiori after Ben White headed the ball back across the goal.

This shifted the momentum completely, with Mikel Arteta’s team starting to apply intense pressure, helped by several substitutions. Bruno Guimaraes made a decisive impact by running onto a clever flick from Declan Rice and slotting the ball into the corner. Daniel Farke’s team’s resistance seemed to fade, and Arsenal came closest to scoring again in the final moments when Odegaard was somehow denied from almost on the goal line following excellent work from Rice.

Despite being the stronger side for much of the match, Leeds have now won only once in their last 18 visits to face the reigning top-flight champions (6 draws, 11 losses). Meanwhile, Arteta has maintained his perfect record against Farke with five wins and, at least for now, has moved level with Manchester City at the top of the league table.
