Premier League Roundup, Matchday 7
The seventh week of the Premier League has come to an end, showcasing thrilling games, outstanding individual displays, and surprising results. Here is the Premier League roundup for this matchday.
Everton 0-2 Chelsea
Chelsea secured a hard-earned 2-0 win against Everton in a heated match at Hill Dickinson Stadium, preventing the home team from remaining unbeaten in their first seven Premier League games for only the second time. This victory ended Chelsea’s nine-month streak of 22 league games without a clean sheet, their longest such drought since August 1961, and moved them up to fourth place in the standings. Meanwhile, David Moyes’ team suffered their first defeat of the season, dropping to 8th place.

Manchester City 3-2 Ipswich
Manchester City, who are leading the league, extended their remarkable unbeaten streak in the Premier League against newly-promoted teams to an impressive 32 games with a 3-2 victory over Ipswich Town.

Fulham 1-0 Hull City
Fulham secured their first Premier League victory of the season on their seventh attempt (with 2 draws and 4 losses), defeating Hull City 1-0 at Craven Cottage, which relieved some of the pressure on Alvaro Arbeloa. Fulham have now won five consecutive matches against Hull, while the Tigers have failed to win in their last five league games despite a promising start to their return to the top division.
Brentford 1-2 Liverpool
Liverpool came from behind to secure a 2-1 victory over Brentford, who were down to nine players. Since their return to the Premier League in 2021, Brentford have now lost a league-high 105 points from winning positions. Liverpool moved ahead of their opponents in the standings, with Brentford having started the match at the top of the table for the first time since 1938.

Newcastle 0-1 Aston Villa
Aston Villa maintained their revival in the Premier League this season by securing a 1-0 victory over Newcastle United. This marks the first time since 1958 that Newcastle have suffered back-to-back home defeats in the top division against Villa. Newcastle’s consecutive 4-1 away losses had already unsettled their supporters, but losing at home in this manner, and failing to win in four matches against Villa, is an even greater source of worry.
Leeds 1-1 Manchester United
Leeds United extended their unbeaten streak at home in the Premier League to eight games as they came from behind to secure a 1-1 draw against their fierce rivals Manchester United, who have yet to win away this season. The match ended in a draw, allowing United to extend their unbeaten record against this opponent at Elland Road to eight games.

Brighton 5-0 Crystal Palace
Brighton & Hove Albion achieved their fourth consecutive Premier League victory for only the second time, with three goals scored within the first 10 minutes leading the Seagulls to an impressive 5-0 win against their rivals Crystal Palace. Brighton now sit third in the Premier League standings, while Palace have fallen to 14th place.
Bournemouth 2-0 Sunderland
Bournemouth secured their first Premier League victory of the season on their seventh try (with 3 draws and 3 losses) by defeating Sunderland, who played with 10 men, 2-0 at the Vitality Stadium. Similar to their recent European match, the home team had a comfortable game, achieving only their second home win in seven competitive encounters against Sunderland (with 1 draw and 4 losses). This win allowed Bournemouth to move above Sunderland in the relegation standings. Sunderland, despite also winning in the Europa League, have now dropped to the bottom of the Premier League after suffering their fourth consecutive league defeat.
Nottingham Forest 0-1 Arsenal
Arsenal have climbed back to second place in the Premier League standings after a 1-0 win at the City Ground, marking their ninth victory in the last 12 top-tier encounters between the two teams. Arsenal secured their third straight victory in all competitions and closing the gap to just three points behind Premier League leaders Manchester City. Meanwhile, Nottingham Forest ended the weekend in the relegation zone after suffering three consecutive defeats.

Tottenham 3-1 Coventry
Tottenham Hotspur secured their first Premier League victory of the season on their seventh attempt, thanks to excellent goals from James Maddison and Omar Marmoush, leading them to a 3-1 win over Coventry City. As a result, Coventry City dropped to 17th place, falling below Spurs on goal difference, and have now suffered six consecutive defeats against the North London team.
