PSG vs Monaco Review
Monaco came from behind to secure a 2-1 victory away at Paris Saint-Germain, maintaining a perfect record after three Ligue 1 matches and five games in all competitions under Filipe Luís. Meanwhile, the champions are still searching for their first win in the new domestic season. PSG had managed to earn 2-2 draws after trailing in their first two matches, and starting slowly has become a recurring issue recently, as they had only been leading at halftime in one of their last six league games.

Their efforts to change this improved 12 minutes into the match when Désiré Doué passed to Achraf Hakimi, whose blocked shot bounced back to Doué. However, Doué’s follow-up attempt was well saved by Lukas Hradecky before Khvicha Kvaratskhelia fired over the goal. Doué’s shot was his second attempt on target after an earlier effort saved by Hradecky, while Monaco showed no signs of the team that had won their first two Ligue 1 matches without conceding.

Just after the 30-minute mark, Luis Enrique’s team ended Monaco’s chance of keeping another clean sheet by executing a calm move down the left side. This led to Kvaratskhelia sending in a cross that Marquinhos redirected into the net with his chest. Shortly after, the Georgian winger nearly scored himself with a low, fast shot that forced a sharp save from the goalkeeper. In added time, the visitors finally managed a shot, but Paris Brunner’s effort went wide following a well-coordinated play. Although Monaco had beaten Les Parisiens twice last season, securing three consecutive wins against them seemed unlikely as PSG maintained control early in the second half.

Maghnes Akliouche, a recent signing from Monaco, tried to prove his worth to his former team by flicking the ball toward goal after a free-kick, but his ex-teammate Hradecky anticipated it. What few expected was an equalizer, but just before the hour mark, Jordan Teze’s floated cross was headed in by Nazinho, giving Monaco a goal with their first shot on target. Despite the setback, PSG’s attacking efforts made them appear more likely to score the next goal, but the visitors surprised them again with 18 minutes remaining.

Aleksandr Golovin prepared to shoot from distance but instead passed the ball forward to Stanis Idumbo, who took a shot despite a tight angle on the left side of the box. His powerful strike beat Matvey Safonov at the near post. PSG believed they had secured a 2-2 draw late in the game, but Ferran Torres’ goal was disallowed for offside. As a result, Les Monégasques held on to become the first team to defeat PSG three times consecutively in Ligue 1 since the club’s Qatari ownership began. This also marks the first time the European champions have gone four league matches without a win since 2023.
