Nottingham Forest vs Chelsea Review
Nottingham Forest’s winless run under their previous coach, Ange Postecolgou, reached eight games after they suffered a 3-0 home defeat to Chelsea in the Premier League. Forest started confidently, and a mistake by Chelsea gave them a great chance to take the lead through Elliot Anderson. However, instead of shooting, he chose to cut inside and was crowded out by Chelsea defenders. Another defensive error created Forest’s next opportunity midway through the first half. Chelsea’s defense misjudged the ball’s bounce, allowing Douglas Luiz to head it back across the goal for the unmarked Morgan Gibbs-White, who acrobatically volleyed the ball over the bar from close range.

A Blues team missing key players like Cole Palmer, Moisés Caicedo, and Enzo Fernández appeared ineffective in attack, exemplified by a weak Reece James free-kick from 30 yards that summed up their first-half display. However, despite their clear lack of offensive threat in the first 45 minutes, they did create arguably the best chance of the half. A frustrated João Pedro dropped back and delivered a beautiful ball over the top to Andrey Santos, but the Brazilian’s left-footed shot narrowly missed the goal.

Enzo Maresca, who was absent from the sidelines after receiving a red card against Liverpool before the international break, had seen enough by halftime and made three substitutions. Although none of the substitutes were directly involved in the goal, their introduction revitalized Chelsea’s attack, leading to the opening goal. Pedro Neto did the hard work in the buildup, driving down the left flank before delivering a perfect cross to Josh Acheampong, who confidently headed the ball into the net from six yards out.

After the restart, Chelsea appeared like a different team and quickly extended their lead just three minutes later when Pedro Neto powerfully scored a free-kick from the edge of the box. Igor Jesus redirected Callum Hudson-Odoi’s cross onto the crossbar and then the post, highlighting the difficulties Forest are currently experiencing.

Chelsea further added to Forest’s woes late in the game when Reece James smashed in a half-cleared corner, securing what was only their fourth win in their last 15 top-tier away matches. However, a late red card for Malo Gusto slightly dampened the mood. Ange Postecoglou was dismissed right after the match, having been in charge at the City Ground for only 39 days.
