Chelsea vs Manchester United Review
Chelsea have now suffered four consecutive home Premier League defeats for the first time since 1998, losing 1-0 at Stamford Bridge to Manchester United, who strengthened their place in the top three with the win. Chelsea were eager to earn points, having won only one of their last seven home matches. They were the more threatening side during a cautious first half. Estêvão came close to scoring when his shot from outside the box hit the post, which was his only significant moment before he had to leave the game due to injury.
Enzo Fernández then narrowly missed a shot from inside the area as Chelsea seemed to be gaining momentum, but the visitors scored with their only shot on target of the half when Matheus Cunha finished off a cutback from Bruno Fernandes. After the break, Chelsea was under pressure to push forward and challenge their opponents. They came close twice, hitting the crossbar following crosses into the box. First, Delap’s header struck the woodwork, then Noussair Mazraoui unintentionally did the same, though that goal would have been disallowed anyway due to the ball having touched Wesley Fofana’s hand beforehand.
Cole Palmer also missed a shot wide, but the expected Chelsea attack never fully materialized. Late in the game, Moisés Caicedo nearly scored with a shot aimed at the bottom corner, but the Red Devils ultimately held on comfortably to their slim lead. This result adds more pressure on Liam Rosenior, who may now need to focus on qualifying for a different European competition rather than the Champions League, given the teams closing in behind them.
Meanwhile, Manchester United have extended their lead over Chelsea to 10 points in the standings, achieving only their second-ever Premier League head-to-head double against the Blues.
