Wolves vs Liverpool Review
Wolves achieved consecutive Premier League victories for the first time since April 2025, as André scored his first goal for the club to secure an impressive 2-1 win against Liverpool at Molineux. Facing almost certain relegation, Wolves’ carefree approach recently sparked a small resurgence, having earned four points from their last two home matches against Arsenal and Aston Villa. Liverpool began strongly, with Cody Gakpo testing José Sá early on with a long-range shot that was comfortably saved. Liverpool continued to push for an early goal, but Jeremie Frimpong fired his shot over the crossbar following an excellent run and pass from Hugo Ekitiké.

The home team was understandably pleased to handle the pressure, keeping the Reds at a distance with relative ease during a first half that was quickly forgotten once it ended. Rob Edwards’ squad failed to register a single shot on goal by halftime, while Liverpool, who were expected to control the game, managed only two shots on target in the first half. Shortly after the second half began, Slot’s team had a penalty appeal denied when Frimpong’s cross seemed to strike Ladislav Krejčí’s arm before going out of play, and they nearly took the lead from the resulting corner.

Ekitiké flicked Salah’s corner towards Curtis Jones, but Gakpo appeared to unintentionally clear the ball away from his teammate before it bounced off the crossbar and away to safety. Ekitiké then made another strong run down the right flank and sent in an early cross that Krejčí expertly intercepted. Then came a surprising blow that ignited a roar from the crowd. Tolu Arokodare overpowered Virgil van Dijk to reach a long forward pass and set up Rodrigo Gomes, who skillfully chipped the ball over Alisson to give Wolves a remarkable lead in the 78th minute. Rio Ngumoha nearly leveled the score when Sá made an excellent save, deflecting his shot onto the post.

However, Mohamed Salah eventually equalized for the Reds by intercepting Jean-Ricner Bellegarde’s cross-field pass and finishing with a toe poke past Sá, marking his first Premier League goal since November. Slot’s team pushed for a winning goal during stoppage time, but astonishingly, it was the home side who scored deep into added time. André’s shot took a significant deflection off Joe Gomez, securing all three points in a dramatic finish.

Although Wolves remain 11 points behind 17th place, performances and wins like this keep fans hopeful for the seemingly impossible. Meanwhile, Liverpool may regret missing the chance to strengthen their position in the Premier League’s top five amid an increasingly intense battle for UEFA Champions League qualification.
