Arsenal vs Leeds Review
Arsenal achieved their seventh straight win over Leeds by defeating them 5-0 at the Emirates Stadium in the Premier League. The initial opportunity arose for Martin Ødegaard, who was later taken off in the first half due to injury, when he narrowly missed a shot from the edge of the penalty area. Viktor Gyökeres also had a chance to net his first goal for Arsenal but missed the target despite having more time in the box than anticipated. Leeds posed a brief threat from a corner, with Pascal Struijk’s header being expertly saved by David Raya.

The Gunners broke the deadlock from their own corner, with Declan Rice delivering a cross that Jurriën Timber expertly headed into the far corner. Having also scored from a corner against Manchester United last weekend, this marked Arsenal’s 32nd goal from corners since the start of the 2023/24 season, the highest tally in the top division by a wide margin. Timber then set up a second goal just before halftime, assisting Bukayo Saka, who skillfully finished first-time with his weaker right foot.

Early in the second half, Arsenal quickly added a third when Riccardo Calafiori played Gyökeres through the channel, the Swedish forward cut inside and fired into the near post for his first goal with the Gunners. Unfortunately, Saka had to leave the game injured shortly after, but Arsenal secured a fourth goal from yet another corner, with Timber poking the ball home following a scramble in the box.

The home team was able to give 15-year-old Max Dowman his league debut when he came on, and he showed energy by winning a penalty during stoppage time. Gyökeres took the penalty and scored into the bottom corner, securing his second goal of the match. The win was comfortable as Arsenal climbed to the top of the table early in the season, equaling a Premier League record of 43 consecutive home games without defeat against newly-promoted teams. At the same time, Leeds’ seven-game winning streak came to an end.
