Real Madrid vs Bayern Munich Review
Bayern Munich secured a thrilling 2-1 victory against Real Madrid in the first leg of their high-profile quarter-final match. The first half lived up to expectations, displaying the exceptional quality of these legendary clubs across the field from the very beginning. Bayern started strong and were stunned when Dayot Upamecano missed a close-range header from Harry Kane’s pass. However, the home team soon began to capitalize on their speed during counterattacks, with Manuel Neuer having to make a save to deny Kylian Mbappé after Arda Güler’s through ball.

After making a save from Mbappé, he followed it up with an even better diving stop to block a powerful shot from Vinícius Júnior aimed at the bottom right corner. Despite these chances, it would have been unfair to say the visitors didn’t deserve their opening goal, which shocked the home fans five minutes before halftime. They broke through Madrid’s defense with a quick passing sequence, ending with a perfect through ball from Serge Gnabry that Luis Díaz eagerly received and converted into a goal.

Madrid had barely returned from the break when Bayern added to their troubles. A skillful run and pass from Michael Olise set up Kane, who swept the ball past Andriy Lunin from the edge of the box within 30 seconds of the second half starting. Lunin did manage to deny Olise twice afterward, preventing him from scoring. However, the home team soon began to show signs of improvement. They were handed an opportunity when Upamecano’s poor clearance fell directly to Vinícius, but the Brazilian failed to score after rounding Neuer. Meanwhile, Mbappé’s shot curled just wide of the post.

The recent pressure paid off with 15 minutes left, when Trent Alexander-Arnold’s low cross to the far post reached Mbappé, who managed to score despite Neuer’s strong attempt to save it. As expected, Real Madrid had more opportunities after that, but they couldn’t avoid only their second loss in nine head-to-head matches against Bayern. Bayern’s goals just before and after halftime put them in control of the tie and may position them as early favorites to win their seventh UEFA Champions League title.
