Paris Saint-Germain will head to London next week with a three-goal advantage after defeating Chelsea 5-2 in an exciting UEFA Champions League (UCL) round of 16 match. The first 10 minutes at Parc des Princes were intense, and after both teams missed a few chances, PSG broke the deadlock when João Neves’ soft header at the back post was expertly finished by Bradley Barcola, who scored off the underside of the crossbar. The home side nearly doubled their lead when Dembélé’s powerful shot was deflected onto the post by Filip Jörgensen.

Chelsea responded with Pedro Neto, whose dangerous cutback was saved by Matvey Safonov. At the other end, Jörgensen made an excellent save to deny a curled shot from Barcola. As the first half went on, the visitors scored when Enzo Fernández’s cross-field pass found Malo Gusto, who skillfully finished through Safonov to level the score. The fast-paced nature of the match showed no signs of slowing as halftime approached, and Dembélé quickly countered and expertly scored past Jörgensen to put PSG ahead again, just 15 seconds after Cole Palmer had missed a great chance.

Chelsea remained dangerous in the attacking third, and the equalizer came in the 57th minute when Neto made a brilliant run and cross, which Fernández finished clinically for his 12th goal of the season. Luis Enrique then brought on Kvaratskhelia and Lee Kang-in from the bench. Kvaratskhelia played a key role as PSG took the lead for the third time, with the Georgian selflessly assisting Vitinha, who scored a beautiful lob after a major error by Jörgensen in goal for Chelsea.

Chelsea believed they had equalized once more when João Pedro scored from close range, but the goal was ruled out for offside. PSG scored a fourth goal in the 86th minute through Kvaratskhelia, who cut in from the left side and curled a stunning shot into the far corner, sending the Parc des Princes into chaos. The visitors appeared stunned by that goal, and PSG took advantage by adding a fifth in the final moments of stoppage time, with Kvaratskhelia in the right place to finish from Achraf Hakimi’s cross, giving Enrique’s team a strong lead going into the second leg.
