Chelsea vs Hull Review
Hull maintained their strong start to the Premier League season by securing a 2-2 draw away at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea. Hull, who have been performing well, entered the match aiming to become the first promoted team in Premier League history to keep four straight clean sheets. However, that goal was quickly dashed just seven minutes into the game. Morgan Rogers, who had been involved in a goal in each of his league appearances for Chelsea, extended his run by scoring with a powerful shot past goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis at the near post.
The Blues were leading, but after failing to capitalize on their momentum, they were equalized just before the 30-minute mark, extending their streak to 20 consecutive Premier League games without a clean sheet. A hopeful cross from Ryan Giles bounced awkwardly over Jorrel Hato near the penalty spot and fell kindly to Mohamed Belloumi, who skillfully directed his shot past Emiliano Martínez. Despite this, Chelsea’s defense remained vulnerable, and Hull nearly took advantage when Martínez mishandled a Regan Slater shot, leaving the ball at Oli McBurnie’s feet, who was unable to react in time. Nevertheless, Chelsea kept pressing and equalized again in the 66th minute when João Pedro fired a close-range shot, setting up an exciting finish to the game.
The match was closely contested until the final moments, but Rogers could only direct his shots straight at Tzolakis, and Mohamed-Ali Cho was unable to get past Martínez as both teams missed chances. In the end, Xabi Alonso’s team had to settle for a draw, extending their unbeaten head-to-head streak to 18 games (15 wins, 3 draws). The Blues have now gone without a win in their last five home league matches against newly promoted teams (4 draws, 1 loss). This result is another positive for Hull, keeping them in third place, just one spot above the Blues early in the season.
