Atletico Madrid vs Bayern Munich Review
Bayern Munich narrowly secured a hard-earned 2-0 win against Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Champions League, ending Atletico’s nine-match unbeaten streak at the Metropolitano. Julian Alvarez tried to shift the momentum for the home side by connecting with Alexander Sorloth’s flick-on, but his shot went wide of the far post. However, Bayern gradually took control of the match, with Lennart Karl sending a shot over the crossbar after some excellent combination play involving Dayot Upamecano and Harry Kane.

Kane, who was trying to match Cristiano Ronaldo’s record of scoring in 11 consecutive Champions League matches, came close to opening the scoring himself when his first-time shot went wide from Konrad Laimer’s cross. Both teams lacked sharpness in the final third, but the game was far from dull. Sorloth missed a chance to connect with Marc Pubill’s promising cross, and Josip Stanisic’s shot narrowly missed the post in an exciting first half.

Neither team managed a shot on target before halftime, but that changed within the first minute after the break when Joshua Kimmich’s long-range effort forced Jan Oblak into a save. Kane then moved into a central position and fired a left-footed shot wide, but it was a less experienced player who scored first for Bayern. Tom Bischof had an initial shot blocked, and Karl intercepted Robin Le Normand before the defender could clear, then expertly finished past Oblak from a tight angle. With this goal, Karl became the fourth-youngest player to reach five Champions League goals, joining Lamine Yamal, Kylian Mbappe, and Raul at 18 years and 245 days old.

Upamecano came very close to doubling Bayern’s lead when his deflected shot struck the crossbar, but it was Laimer who eventually gave the Bavarians some extra breathing room with just over 15 minutes left. Kane delivered a beautiful pass to the Austrian on the right, and the full-back controlled it before firing an unstoppable shot past Oblak. Upamecano believed he had scored a third for Atleti with a header at the far post, but the home team was spared embarrassment when the French player was penalized for a foul on Pubill.

In the end, Der Rekordmeister settled for two goals in their first-ever away win against Atletico. This victory extends their unbeaten run to 15 games across all competitions this season, while Diego Simeone’s team has now won only one of their first four UCL matches this season, continuing their disappointing performance in Europe so far.
