Can Mikel Arteta help Arsenal secure Champions League qualification this season?

Arsenal seems to have gotten back on their feet after they were able to win some of their matches not long ago but now lie fifth in the Premier League after they losing 3-0 to Crystal Palace. The Gunners have a game in hand over Spurs in fourth but have a tougher run-in.

As if it wasn’t enough, injuries to Kieran Tierney and Thomas Partey have just rubbed salt into the wounds of The Gunners. We see The Gunners and Spurs racing for the top four position and as the Premier League enters its final six-week period with the picture looking very quite different for The Gunners.

Two straight defeats in three Premier League games, including the Monday night’s terrible 3-0 defeat away at Crystal Palace leaves Mikel Arteta’s in a real fight to be able to get back into the top four. Though Arteta has apologized for their ‘unacceptable’ defeat as it’s one of the ‘unforgettable’ nights too for Arsenal. The Gunners’ arch-rivals Tottenham seem to not show signs of slowing down in the race after their successful three wins on the bounce. They too are aware that being able to be in the  fourth spot in the premier league will earns them a seat at European football’s top table next season.

Arsenal

The Gunners do seem to have the slight luxury of a game in hand over Spurs, although their going away to Chelsea later this month for a win is a lot less comfortable. It looks like that match at the Stamford Bridge on April 20 marks the beginning of a very tricky run for the Gunners, as they clash at their home against Manchester United before they go to West Ham at the start of May has definitely transformed Arsenal’s next two matches – at home to Brighton and their away at Southampton – into rather an urgent must-win fixtures. The scrutiny, pressure and the unforgiving injury problems are starting to pile up.
