Premier League Roundup, Matchday 12

Matchday 12 of the Premier League has concluded, featuring exciting games, remarkable individual performances, and unexpected outcomes. Here is a recap of this set of Premier League matches.

Burnley 0-2 Chelsea

Burnley have failed to win in their last 10 Premier League home matches against Chelsea, equaling a club record, following their 2-0 defeat at Turf Moor. This win lifted Chelsea to second place in the standings. The defeat heightens Burnley’s concerns about relegation, while for Chelsea, it provided perfect preparation for a busy upcoming week with games against Barcelona and Arsenal.

Wolves 0-2 Crystal Palace

Rob Edwards’ Wolves lost 2-0 to Crystal Palace, becoming only the eighth team in the Premier League’s 33-year history to remain winless after 12 matches. Despite hopes for a fresh start, the familiar struggles continued at Molineux, and Wolves supporters realize that a small miracle is now required to avoid relegation, particularly since no team with fewer than five points after 12 games in a 38-match Premier League season has ever managed to survive.

Liverpool 0-3 Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest caused one of the biggest upsets of the Premier League season by beating Liverpool 3-0 at Anfield, boosting their prospects of avoiding relegation and achieving consecutive wins at this stadium. The 3-0 defeat marked Liverpool’s worst home league loss under Arne Slot, highlighting continued difficulties in their title defense. Forest have now climbed comfortably above the relegation zone, and judging by this display, Sean Dyche seems to be the perfect manager to maintain their Premier League status.

Fulham 1-0 Sunderland

Fulham stretched their unbeaten streak against Sunderland to four games with a closely contested 1-0 victory at Craven Cottage, where they have collected 13 of their 14 Premier League points this season. Fulham have won six of their last seven home matches, relieving some of the pressure on Silva. On the other hand, Sunderland fell out of the top four, having suffered all three of their Premier League losses this season away from home.

Brighton 2-1 Brentford

Jack Hinshelwood scored the decisive goal that clinched a hard-earned 2-1 win for the Brighton against Brentford, continuing the Seagulls’ impressive unbeaten streak at the Amex Stadium that dates back to early April. Although Brentford was given a late chance with a stoppage-time penalty, Thiago’s weak shot was easily saved by Verbruggen. Brighton’s manager Fabian Hürzeler witnessed his team secure a thrilling victory in his 50th Premier League match in charge.

Bournemouth 2-2 West Ham

Although Callum Wilson scored two goals against his former team, a late equalizer from Enes Ünal allowed a determined Bournemouth to earn an exciting 2-2 draw at the Vitality Stadium. This result prevented the Hammers from achieving their first three consecutive Premier League wins since December 2023. Bournemouth showed great spirit in the second half, keeping their place in the top half of the table and extending manager Andoni Iraola’s unbeaten Premier League head-to-head record against Espírito Santo to two wins and three draws.

Newcastle 2-1 Manchester City

Newcastle United achieved their sixth straight win at St James’ Park by beating Premier League title challengers Manchester City 2-1 on Tyneside, stopping Pep Guardiola’s side from narrowing the gap behind league leaders Arsenal. Newcastle earned three points, moving up to 14th place and giving Eddie Howe his first Premier League win against City. The visitors stayed in third place following another disappointing away display, having won only two of their six league matches on the road this season.

Arsenal 4-1 Tottenham

Eberechi Eze scored a hat-trick as Arsenal thoroughly outplayed Tottenham, securing a 4-1 victory in the Premier League and marking the Gunners’ longest winning run in North London derbies this century with four consecutive wins. This triumph also extended Arsenal’s unbeaten run to 15 matches in all competitions, putting them six points ahead at the top of the Premier League standings. On the other hand, Spurs have managed just one win in their last five league matches, suffering three defeats, and are currently sitting in ninth place.

Manchester United 0-1 Everton

Everton have achieved consecutive Premier League wins for the first time by defeating Manchester United 1-0, ending the Red Devils’ four-game winning run at Old Trafford, even though they were down to 10 players early in the match. David Moyes must be very pleased with his team’s defensive effort to maintain their lead for such a long period, along with the goal scored by Dewsbury-Hall. This marks only their second league victory in 33 visits to Old Trafford and their first Premier League win on a Monday since 2021.
