Mikel Arteta Outlines What He Wants During This Winter Window

Mikel Arteta is advocating for Arsenal to bolster the front line while also praising Eddie Nketiah for doing a superb job of filling in for Gabriel Jesus thus far.

With his two goals against Oxford United on Monday, Eddie Nketiah has now scored four goals in as many games following Gabriel Jesus’ injury. That is undoubtedly a good start for the striker, and Mikel Arteta was very complimentary of him following the game.

“He showed great composure,” Arteta said. “He is a great finisher and the timing of his runs as well. The decision making to wait to the last moment shows his quality.

“It’s not only that – his understanding, his work rate I think is getting better and better. And I’m really happy with him.”

Mikel Arteta continued, though, by pointing out how lacking the club is in offensive positions.

“The problem is we have only one (striker)! And to go for that many months ’til Jesus is back is not easy. But we have to get the most out of the players that we have at the moment and if we can have some reinforcements – great.”

Mykhaylo Mudryk, who would give Arsenal additional options on the wings and enable players like Martinelli or Smith Rowe to fill in centrally if necessary, is currently the player most frequently associated with the Gunners.

But since Jesus is expected to be out of action for several months, it’s possible that Mikel Arteta will try to sign a natural center-forward before the window shuts.

Considering that Joao Felix is expected to join Chelsea on loan, there are currently no credible ties to additions at the position. To conclude another agreement this month may thus be a long shot.
