90min reported that Todd Boehly has resigned from his position as Chelsea’s acting sports director as his replacement’s hiring team begins to take shape.
Todd Boehly took temporary charge of the Blues’ transfer business last summer after he and Clearlake Capital purchased the team. Boehly gave himself the status of interim sports director while the search for a formal hiring for the position went on.
Since then, Chelsea has started to put together a fresh group of players with international experience. Along with Paul Winstanley, who was hired from Brighton as head of global talent and transfers, Christopher Vivell, who has been named technical director, will now oversee the team’s transfer operations.
Lawrence Stewart, who will begin working at Stamford Bridge after leaving Monaco next month, and Joe Shields, who was formerly in charge of recruiting at Southampton and Manchester City, will shortly join the pair.

Todd Boehly was always intended to stand down from Chelsea’s transfer negotiations once a new board of directors had been appointed, and the co-owner is now confident that the new team can manage their company moving ahead.
When Benoit Badiashile moved from Monaco earlier this month, it was Vivell and Winstanley who were spotted with him. The pair will keep looking for reinforcements for the rest of the January transfer window.
With no option to purchase, Chelsea has verbally agreed to sign Joao Felix on loan from Atletico Madrid. Chelsea is anticipated to be busy over the next several weeks as they try to salvage something from Todd Boehly’s rookie year.
The Blues’ key objectives include finding a replacement for the injured Reece James at right back. In addition, further offensive reinforcements are anticipated after Raheem Sterling and Christian Pulisic were lost to injury for Chelsea.
