Simone Inzaghi believes that Inter could have done better against Leece
Simone Inzaghi has been left fuming after Inter snatched a winner against Leece only in the 94th minute saying that a club with title hopes cannot depend on a 94th-minute winner.
Romelu Lukaku headed in Matteo Darmian’s cross from a clear distance just 81 seconds into the game. When Assan Ceesay finished with his left foot low and hard across Inter goalkeeper Samir Handanovic two minutes into the second half, the game’s dynamic was completely altered. Inter had controlled 70% of the possession in the first half and looked well worth their lead.
The score would remain at 1-1 until the last seconds of play, when Lautaro Martinez’s head connected with an Inter corner and flipped it on for replacement defender Denzel Dumfries to slam in at the back post.
After the victory, Inzaghi told DAZN that while there were certain points to note, his squad ultimately needed to play more forcefully against a freshly promoted team playing its first Serie A match in seven years.

- Erik Ten Hag claims his tactics had nothing to do with United’s defeat to Brentford
“A team like ours cannot win these games [in stoppage time],” he said. “We put a lot of heart on the pitch because we won in the 94th minute, but we have to analyse the game.
“I am fortunate to have strikers who can play together like Dzeko and Lukaku who allow us to play directly, especially on a pitch that was not in great shape at the end, with the midfielders coming in behind them. It is an option that will also be seen in the future.
“We had an excellent half hour, then we got nervous, losing the measures and conceding the equal goal. We could have scored the double before, but a team like this can’t suffer so much, and you can’t wait until the last moments to win.”
