Rafael Leao’s attorney has denied rumours that negotiations for the Portugal international’s contract extension have stalled.
Leao has long been coveted by Chelsea, who have been mulling a 2023 transfer for the current Serie A MVP. However, Milan are growing more optimistic that they will soon be able to extend Leao’s contract, which is now set to expire in the summer of 2024.
Leao and Milan reportedly reached a brick block in their discussions, according to reports in Italy, which prompted the Serie A team to publicly refute the claims.
“The suggestion of an alleged frost between the parties is not only totally unfounded but also harmful to the club and its player,” a Milan statement read. “In fact, AC Milan continues the dialogue with Leao and his entourage in a serene and professional way.”
Ted Dimvula, Leao’s attorney, has now emphasised that his client wants to continue playing for the Rossoneri after this season.
“There are many false and misleading informations about Rafael Leao, mainly in Italian press,” he told Fabrizio Romano. “This has only one aim: to parasitize cordial and professional exchange that we have with AC Milan management regarding the extension of Rafael’s contract.
“The player’s priority has not changed: he wants to stay at AC Milan and continue to grow and progress in this institution and this city that he loves so much.”
