Manchester United could be sanctioned after United fans threw bottles at Diego Simeone
Following Tuesday’s 1-0 loss to Atletico Madrid, a portion of Manchester United fans threw objects towards Diego Simeone, hence, Manchester United is expected to be penalized by UEFA.
Simeone eliminated Manchester United from the Champions League and dashed down the tunnel, narrowly evading a torrent of bottles, cups, and a variety of other objects in the process. As he walked off the field, referee Slavko Vincic was hit by the same objects, and he will now reflect on the occurrences involving both himself and Simeone in his post-match report to UEFA.
According to the New York Times, the European governing body will receive the findings on Wednesday and will decide whether or not to charge United soon.

The UEFA Disciplinary Regulations include a clause that expressly addresses the hurling of objects from the stands, with Tottenham recently receiving a punishment after fans were witnessed throwing missiles in December.
Simeone stated after the game that he had missed the objects thrown from the stands. “When I came off the pitch, I ran because I was happy,” he said. “And I like to enjoy it in the dressing room, so I don’t know what happened… all I was thinking about was getting into the changing room, and I was really happy.”
Fans were critical of Vincic’s performance during the game, and interim United manager Ralf Rangnick did not hold back his words in assessing the Slovenian official.

“It was hard in the second half and always interrupted,” he said. “There was always somebody lying on the floor. I would also say some curious refereeing decisions.

“I wouldn’t say they were decisive but at least he fell too often for those time-wasting antics and four minutes at the end added on was a joke for me. I don’t know if we were naive against a team like Atletico who are the champions of that style of football, it’s not easy. You have to break through that wall somehow. We don’t have the most physical of teams to break through walls. You need physicality.”
