Manchester City Star Alex Greenwood Pens Down New Contract

At Manchester City, Alex Greenwood has signed a new three-year contract that will keep her there through the summer of 2026.

In the summer of 2020, Greenwood moved to Manchester City from the European powerhouse Lyon. Since then, she has made 80 appearances for the team and won the FA Cup and European Cup.

The 29-year-old played five times off the bench for England’s victorious Euro 2022 team during the summer, including against Germany in the Wembley final.

“I’m really pleased to have my new deal sorted and it’s come at the perfect time – after a strong first half to the season, I can now just focus on the remainder of the campaign and the next three years,” said Greenwood.

“Feeling settled at a club for me is so important and I absolutely have that here at City, which is why I’ve signed such a long-term deal – I just love being here.

“I have a really good relationship with Gareth [Taylor] – we’ve worked together throughout my whole time here so far – and the way he wants us to play marries up exactly with how I want to personally, so it’s the perfect match for me.”

When the defender joined City in 2020, she initially agreed to a three-year contract that was set to end in the summer of 2021.

A squad overhaul at City could be avoided if Greenwood commits her future to the organization. During the previous summer’s transfer window, three important first team players—Lucy Bronze, Georgia Stanway, and Caroline Weir—left on free transfers.
