Kalvin Phillips ready to leave Leeds with Manchester City in pursuit

A report from the Daily Mail claims that Kalvin Phillips is ready for a new challenge elsewhere after spending 12 years with Leeds United. He has made 234 appearances for Leeds since making his first professional debut for the club. The Sun also claims that Phillips is also looking for a new agency after his previous agreement expired last week.

Following Fernandinho’s departure from Manchester City, Pep Guardiola looks set to retain the title as he looks set to reinforce his squad. According to The Sun’s report, Guardiola wants a midfielder who can comfortably play as a no. 8 and also a no. 6 and Kalvin Phillips meets these requirements.

Marcelo Bielsa’s departure from Leeds could be a factor pushing Phillips for a change of team. Earlier this summer, Leeds United were confident of tying the midfielder down to a new contract with several reports indicating that Phillips was open to penning down a new contract. To risk losing their key man, Leeds are preparing to make a last offer to Phillips to extend his contract.

Kalvin Phillips has been very impressive for Leeds so far and has even been dubbed the “Yorkshire Pirlo” and has gradually become a key man in Gareth Southgate’s squad. Aside been linked to Manchester City, he has strongly been linked to Manchester United as well, as the Red Devils looks set to get replacements for Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic.
