World Cup fans could be imprisoned in Qatar if they carry along pork, sex toys and other banned items
With less than a week until the tournament, visitors may see on the government’s official website how stringent the country’s regulations are. Qatar has been preparing for the massive inflow of spectators for the World Cup.
With Qatar being governed by rigorous restrictions that may surprise some people, the tournament promises to be unlike any other. There is a list of prohibited objects that, if brought into Qatar, might result in jail term for the offender. Pornography, alcohol, sex toys, and pork are all on the list.
Fans are also reminded of the country’s alcohol regulations, which restrict drinking to specific locations. Additionally, unpleasant public behavior that can get people in trouble is advised against.

A statement on the UK government website reads: “Swearing and making rude gestures are considered obscene acts and offenders can be jailed and/or deported.
“Take particular care when dealing with the police and other officials.”
“Any intimacy in public between men and women (including between teenagers) can lead to arrest.”
“You should dress modestly when in public, including while driving. Women must cover their shoulders and avoid wearing short skirts.
“Both men and women are advised not to wear shorts or sleeveless tops, when going to government buildings, health care facilities or malls.”
Since Qatar was chosen to host the 2022 World Cup, controversy has ensued. Campaigners and activists are nonetheless concerned about the nation’s human rights record and attitudes toward homosexuals. On Sunday, the opening match of the competition will have Qatar taking on Ecuador.
