After Jadon Sancho’s first goal since September helped Manchester United hold Leeds United to a 2-2 draw, Erik ten Hag predicted that Sancho will continue to flourish for the remainder of the season.
After missing a lot of time owing to what Ten Hag called “circumstances with fitness and mood,” Sancho played his first game since October 22 when he entered the match against Nottingham Forest earlier this month.
The England international came in as a second-half replacement on Wednesday with United down 2-0 after Wilfried Gnonto’s opening goal and Raphael Varane’s own goal.
Marcus Rashford’s 20th goal of the season, though, cut the deficit in half before Sancho’s shot eluded Illan Meslier and prevented managerless Leeds from earning their first league victory at Old Trafford since 1981.
Ten Hag thinks Sancho’s performance is an indication of things to come while introducing him, saying: “I wanted a different dynamic. In that moment we weren’t in the game.
“Luckily it succeeded because we scored two goals. We’re very happy.
“He’s all the way back. We know he’s a magnificent player. I think he can consistently have a big impact, but he has to work hard.
“It will motivate him to get more. I really enjoyed it, especially for him. It will strengthen him.”
