Club Brugge vs Barcelona Review
Barcelona played a 3-3 with Club Brugge in the UEFA Champions League (UCL), which ended their streak of four consecutive away wins in the competition. Just six minutes into the match, Carlos Forbs outpaced Barcelona’s high defensive line and assisted Nicolò Tresoldi for an easy goal, surprising the visitors. Two minutes later, Ferran Torres scored with a right-footed shot past Nordin Jackers. The goal calmed Barcelona, and their relentless pressure soon created more opportunities.
Remarkably, from a Barcelona corner, two long balls forward allowed Forbs to break free from absent defenders and curl a left-footed shot past Wojciech Szczęsny for Club Brugge’s second goal. As the game neared the 30-minute mark, Jules Koundé’s powerful shot rebounded off the crossbar, as Barcelona continued to appear more likely to score as the match progressed. Club Brugge remained solid until Anthony Taylor signaled halftime.
After the break, the home team started quickly with Joaquin Seys breaking through, but his left-footed shot was saved by Szczęsny. Eric Garcia unleashed a powerful shot from 30 yards that hit the post, and shortly after, Lamine Yamal broke through the home defense to score with the outside of his left foot. Forbs seemed to have earned a penalty, but a VAR review saved the Catalans. However, with 13 minutes remaining, a famous victory seemed to slip away when Lamine Yamal’s attempted cross was headed into the Brugge goal by their top scorer, Christos Tzolis. The own goal by the Greek striker was a tough moment by any standard, but things got even worse when Romeo Vermant seemed to have secured the win for the home team in stoppage time. However, VAR controversially ruled that he had fouled Szczęsny before scoring.
This outcome continues Club Brugge’s unbeaten streak at home in the competition to five matches and prevented Barça from winning their first two away games in the Champions League for the first time since the 2020/21 season.
