Bayern Munich extended their perfect start to the Bundesliga season to an impressive nine consecutive wins by defeating Bayer Leverkusen 3-0, ending the visitors’ remarkable 37-game unbeaten run in away league matches. The early part of the game did not quite live up to expectations, which worked in Leverkusen’s favor as they managed to contain a Bayern team known for their fast starts this season. However, it didn’t take long for the Bavarian giants to take control, scoring midway through the first half when Serge Gnabry broke through and finished under the legs of a desperate Mark Flekken.

Bayern rarely settle for just one goal, and Vincent Kompany’s relentless team quickly went in search of more, scoring again just six minutes later. This wasn’t a display of total football, but rather classic wing play from Konrad Laimer, who delivered a perfect cross to the unmarked Nicolas Jackson, who confidently placed the ball in the corner. Jackson found the net again before halftime, but his celebration was cut short by an offside flag from the assistant referee.

However, the hosts did secure a third goal before the break, with a bit of help as Loïc Badé deflected Raphaël Guerreiro’s cross into his own net. Even with a comfortable lead, Kompany’s team kept pushing for more goals after the break, nearly scoring a fourth when Jackson headed just wide of the post. Bayern showed their strength by bringing on Harry Kane to replace Jackson, a move that surely worried Leverkusen given Kane’s impressive scoring record this season. However, the visitors’ worst fears didn’t fully materialize after halftime, as Bayern and Kane seemed to ease off, aware the match was won and with midweek European fixtures ahead.

Leverkusen certainly didn’t fight hard to save face as their impressive streak came to an end. Christian Kofane missed their best opportunity of the night when he somehow shot wide from inside the six-yard box, bringing Kasper Hjulmand’s unbeaten run in the Bundesliga with Leverkusen to an abrupt stop. Bayern’s second-half performance might have been somewhat underwhelming for those hoping for more goals, but with the match already decided and another game coming up midweek, it was perhaps not too surprising.
