Levante vs Barcelona Review
Barcelona secured their fifth consecutive win in LaLiga with an exciting 4-2 triumph over Levante UD at the Estadi Ciutat de València. Having scored an impressive 22 goals in their last five matches across all competitions, Barcelona entered the game brimming with confidence. It was therefore no shock when the visitors took the lead just five minutes in, with Xavi Espart slotting the ball into the bottom-left corner. Levante responded positively to the early goal, and around the 15-minute mark, Joan García made a crucial save to deny Roger Brugué’s 12-yard shot that could have equalized the score.
Hansi Flick’s team showed no mercy and doubled their lead after 19 minutes. Raphinha skillfully got past Mathew Ryan and then calmly passed the ball from a tight angle to Lamine Yamal, who finished to score his fifth LaLiga goal of the season. Despite this, Levante fought back and matched their opponents, with a defensive mistake from Barça nearly allowing Víctor García to reduce the deficit before halftime. Any hopes Levante fans had for a second-half comeback were quickly dashed shortly after the break when Yamal was fouled inside the penalty area, resulting in a penalty.
Yamal confidently took the spot-kick himself and scored, increasing the visitors’ lead. Luís Castro’s team continued to fight as the second half went on and should have scored when substitute Iván Romero had a close-range shot blocked right in front of the goal by Andreas Christensen. Just a minute later, Romero had another attempt, which was well saved by Joan García at his near post. Romero finally scored in the 79th minute, taking advantage of some poor defending by Barça to give Levante a lifeline.
Surprisingly, Levante scored again as full time approached, with Brugué finishing a brilliant solo run by putting the ball into the net. Barcelona then came under intense pressure but sealed the win in stoppage time with a counter-attack goal from Karim Adeyemi. With this latest victory, Barcelona remain top of LaLiga, three points ahead of second-placed Real Madrid. They will look to secure a sixth consecutive league win on Wednesday when they host Racing de Santander. Meanwhile, Levante stay in 13th place and will face Athletic Bilbao at home in LaLiga on Wednesday as well.
