Espanyol vs Barcelona Review
Barcelona have temporarily extended their lead at the top of the standings to seven points following a hard-fought 2-0 victory at the RCDE Stadium, which ended Los Periquitos’ streak of five consecutive wins. Despite facing a highly hostile atmosphere largely aimed at Joan García, he and his Barcelona teammates managed the early pressure effectively. Ferran Torres squandered a prime opportunity to put the visitors ahead in the third minute when he mishandled the ball with only the goalkeeper to beat, while Espanyol’s best chance in the early stages was a powerful header from Leandro Cabrera off a corner in the ninth minute.

Although Barcelona controlled most of the possession, the home team defended deeply and launched fast attacks, making the Blaugrana vulnerable to quick counterattacks. Before halftime, Lamine Yamal’s only notable action was a curling shot that went wide, while García made an incredible one-handed save from Pere Milla’s close-range header just before the break. In fact, it wasn’t until added time in the first half that Barça managed their first shot on target, but Marko Dmitrović was able to stop Lamine’s attempt.

The intense nature of the match continued into the second half, with the visitors showing more intent in their attacks. Substitute Fermín López injected some energy, and Dmitrović had to make a low dive to save Jules Koundé’s header. As the game approached the 60-minute mark, Espanyol came on strong, with Roberto Fernández and Tyrhys Dolan coming close to scoring. García made an impressive save from Fernández’s attempt to beat the goalkeeper, even better than his previous saves, keeping Barça in the match.

Dmitrović then managed to block Eric García’s shot from just two yards out. Remarkably, García went even further by making a full-length save to deny Carlos Romero’s curled shot. The intensity remained high, and as Espanyol continued to press forward, Dani Olmo scored a beautiful goal with five minutes remaining. Substitute Robert Lewandowski secured the victory, aided by Fermín’s hard work. This result means Espanyol have still not beaten Barcelona at the RCDE Stadium, where Barcelona have now won 10 of their last 11 games overall.
