Barcelona triumphed over Athletic Bilbao 4-0, extending their unbeaten streak in La Liga head-to-head matches to 12 games (10 wins, 2 draws). This result also marked Athletic’s fifth consecutive away game this season without a victory (1 draw, 4 losses). As expected on their return to Camp Nou, Barcelona quickly found their rhythm from the start, overwhelming Athletic with their pace and intensity. Within four minutes, Robert Lewandowski scored the opening goal, and it took another five minutes before the visitors managed to enter Barcelona’s half.

As the first half continued, both teams maintained a high defensive line, resulting in much of the play being concentrated in a crowded 30-yard central area of the pitch. Ferran Torres had a clever finish disallowed for offside, while Nico Williams was the most active player for Athletic when they managed to slow down Barcelona’s attacks. Just before halftime, Unai Gómez had a chance to score from Williams’ assist but only managed to hit the goalkeeper Joan García, and he missed another good opportunity shortly after. Athletic paid the price for their missed chances when Torres broke through and tucked his shot under Unai Simón during first-half stoppage time, giving the home team a two-goal lead.

Within three minutes after the break, Fermín López combined with Eric García in a give-and-go move, allowing López to score Barcelona’s third goal. Athletic’s situation worsened when Oihan Sancet received a red card for a reckless challenge on the goalscorer after a VAR review. This led to three substitutions by Ernesto Valverde, but the changes did not affect the flow of the game as Barcelona comfortably controlled the final part of the match.

Dani Vivian had an unlucky opportunity following an Athletic corner, and shortly after, Dani Olmo narrowly missed with a low shot. Yuri Berchiche’s poor attempt with 15 minutes remaining reflected the visitors’ overall performance. Thanks to an excellent assist from Lamine Yamal, Ferran added a finishing touch to an outstanding Barça display during stoppage time. Barcelona have not lost at home to Athletic in the league since November 2001 (with 21 wins and 3 draws), and this victory, their sixth home win this season, came at their third different stadium (Camp Nou, Estadi Johan Cruyff, and Estadi Lluis Companys).
