Monaco vs Manchester City Review
Monaco extended their unbeaten streak at home to 10 matches after a late penalty by Eric Dier secured a 2-2 draw against Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League. Although the home team started energetically, they were caught off guard when Erling Haaland scored a clinical goal in the 14th minute. Despite a tricky bounce from Joško Gvardiol’s through ball, Haaland managed to lift the ball over goalkeeper Philipp Köhn, marking his eighth consecutive game scoring for both club and country.

Monaco didn’t lose confidence and responded just three minutes later. From 25 yards out, Jordan Teze unleashed a powerful shot that curved past Gianluigi Donnarumma and found the top corner. From that point forward, the visitors dominated the half, with Phil Foden hitting the crossbar and Haaland missing a chance to capitalize on a loose ball from a difficult angle.

Just when it seemed Monaco had resisted the pressure, Nico O’Reilly delivered a hanging cross that Haaland met with enough force to send the ball past Köhn into the bottom corner. After the break, the home team seemed revitalized and posed a greater attacking threat. Maghnes Akliouche, especially, was dangerous coming in from the right and forced an excellent save from Donnarumma with a powerful shot. Rather than pushing for a third goal, Pep Guardiola’s team slowed the hosts’ momentum by focusing on maintaining possession, but they were again thwarted by the woodwork when Tijjani Reijnders struck the crossbar from long range.

Just as it seemed the home team had no more options, Nico González struck Dier in the face inside the penalty area. Amid a scuffle between both teams in the background, a VAR review led to a penalty being awarded. Dier composed himself and confidently converted the penalty, securing Monaco’s first point in the league phase, while City have now gone five consecutive away games in the Champions League without a win.
