Simone Inzaghi wants Inter to do better following their first defeat of the season
Simone Inzaghi was more concerned about Inter’s incapacity to win while Romelu Lukaku was not at his best in Inter’s first loss of the season, which came against Lazio.
After a challenging season with Chelsea, Lukaku has returned on loan to Inter, where he won the Serie A championship in 2020–21. Lukaku quickly showed signs of being back in top form in Italy, scoring at Lecce only two minutes after making his second Inter debut, and setting up a Lautaro Martinez goal against Spezia at home.
But Lukaku hardly made an impact in Friday’s third game of the season against Lazio, providing a reality check. With just 19 touches, Lukaku had the fewest touches of any starting player for either team. He tried three shoots, all with his head, but just one of them was on target.
The game was tied when Edin Dzeko replaced Lukaku in the 69th minute, but Lazio went on to win 3-1.

“[Lukaku] had played the first two games in the best way,” Inzaghi told DAZN when quizzed on the change.
“More than looking at the changes, we have to analyse a lost game, a direct clash that hurts.
“We know that we have to do more in these games to win, beyond the condition of Lukaku or Lautaro.”
Early in the second half, Martinez had pulled the Nerazzurri level, but Inzaghi believed the game had changed with a close-range Denzel Dumfries header that was saved.
“The defeat stings for the way it happened,” the coach explained. “The match was balanced and hard fought against a quality opponent.
“Luis Alberto’s goal [Lazio’s second] broke the game; at 1-1, we had Dumfries’ chance that would have changed things.
“We had to show more nastiness on our side because these games are played in moments.”
