Bundesliga Roundup, Matchday 9
Matchday 9 of the 2025/26 Bundesliga season featured exciting games and outstanding performances. Here’s the Bundesliga roundup from this round.
Augsburg 0-1 Dortmund
Augsburg, who are facing the threat of relegation, experienced their eighth home loss in 10 matches across all competitions (with 1 win and 1 draw) as Borussia Dortmund won 1-0. Led by the outstanding Ramy Bensebaini, Dortmund managed to secure their fourth consecutive win in all competitions, including penalty shootouts, and will next play Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday.

Union Berlin 0-0 Freiburg
Union Berlin played a 0-0 draw against SC Freiburg at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei, extending Freiburg’s winless streak to five Bundesliga games (four draws, one loss). In the end, both teams shared the points, and the result had minimal impact on the league table, with both clubs comfortably positioned in the middle of the standings.
St Pauli 0-4 Monchengladbach
Haris Tabaković scored twice and provided an assist to lead Borussia Mönchengladbach to a convincing 4-0 victory over St Pauli, lifting them off the bottom of the Bundesliga standings. This win also extended Die Fohlen’s unbeaten streak against St Pauli to five matches. By breaking their 16-game winless streak in the Bundesliga, Die Fohlen moved up two spots and are now just one point behind St Pauli, who have suffered six straight league defeats.
RB Leipzig 3-1 Stuttgart
Yan Diomande’s goal involvements just before and after halftime to help RB Leipzig secure a 3-1 victory over VfB Stuttgart. This fourth home win in five matches lifted Die Roten Bullen back to second place in the Bundesliga standings, trailing league leaders Bayern Munich by 5 points. The loss marked Stuttgart’s first league defeat since September, while Ole Werner’s team achieved their third straight league win.

Mainz 1-1 Werder Bremen
Jens Stage netted an equalizer in the 86th minute, allowing Werder Bremen to secure a 1-1 draw against Mainz 05 at the Mewa Arena, preventing the home team from achieving their first Bundesliga home victory since February. Meanwhile, Mainz fell to 17th place, continuing their streak without a home win against this opponent since 2020.
Heidenheim 1-1 Frankfurt
Eintracht Frankfurt extended their poor form to just one victory in seven games, managing only a 1-1 draw on the road against bottom-placed Heidenheim. In the end, Eintracht’s offense found it difficult to penetrate a defense that had already allowed two or more goals in six matches this season. While it’s not a crisis for Frankfurt yet, as they remain close to the European qualification places, the pressure on manager Toppmöller is increasing following another disappointing result.
Bayern Munich 3-0 Bayer Leverkusen
Bayern Munich continued their flawless beginning to the Bundesliga season with an impressive ninth straight victory, beating Bayer Leverkusen 3-0 and halting the visitors’ outstanding 37-game unbeaten streak in away league matches. Although Bayern’s second-half display may have seemed a bit lackluster for fans expecting more goals, given that the result was already settled and they had another match scheduled midweek, this was perhaps understandable.

FC Cologne 4-1 Hamburger SV
After an exciting 4-1 victory against fellow promoted team Hamburger SV, FC Cologne have moved into Bundesliga’s top seven. Hamburger SV have now suffered three straight league defeats for the first time since December 2020. Cologne are close to securing a spot in European competition, having achieved their best start to a Bundesliga season in nine games since finishing fifth in the 2016/17 season.
Wolfsburg 2-3 Hoffenheim
Hoffenheim achieved their third consecutive Bundesliga win by defeating Wolfsburg 3-2 in an exciting match at the Volkswagen Arena, moving up into the top six. Despite Wolfsburg’s strong efforts, their troubling league performance persisted. With this win, Christian Ilzer’s team climbed to sixth place, marking the third straight league game in which they have scored exactly three goals.
